Welcome to the biggest country in the world (at least when it come to population)! On this trip report I will start with a 8 hours layover suggestions for Beijing. So if you fly via Beijing (and this will be definitely the case when you fly Air China) to a final destination in Asia and can afford a longer stop over (or if you are forced to stay longer there) you should grab a 72hours layover visa on arrival and check out some tourist stops in the capital city.
72 hour stopover visas are readily available on arrival at the airport for a certain list of countries. Check it out on Google and also make sure that you need to arrive and depart within 72 hours from the same airport (there are some exceptions though).
If you have at least 7 hours between arrival and departure, one great thing to do is, yes, visit the GREAT wall of china! It’s even quicker to reach from the airport than from the city centre. The easiest way is to hire a car with a driver (English speaking). The trip from the airport to the wall entrance takes 60-90min and you can enjoy this amazing man made monument at the Muntianyu part. This area is less crowded than other entrances on the wall.
Once at the entrance buy the ticket to the wall, a shuttle bus ticket as well as a ticket for the gondola. 1.5-3 hours on the wall should be absolutely fine, you can enjoy great views and then head back to the airport.
The guys and drivers from bestour are amazing and very honest people. Hence trust them as they will tell you how much things cost, even get you a student discount with your foreign drivers license
and can advice you on where to eat. The driver was on time at the airport, waiting with our names written on paper at the airport exit.
The whole trip with driver will set you back around 800Rmb for the entire car, so it will become cheaper if you are a bigger group. Entrance and transport on the ground is another 150 rmb per person.
I would recommend this hassle free trip to anyone if you are willing to spend your layover outside of the airport and rather see stuff than just relax in an international airport:)

Next on: short 12 hour layover in Singapore and off to Bali!
